11/19/06 Say It Ain’t So soriANO!! or Sign The Petition To Bring Back Wilkerson.

Wrigley_2 Late Sunday night reports began surfacing on MLB.com…Alfonso Soriano had agreed "in principal" on a ridiculous 8-year $135 Million dollar contract with the Chicago Cubs, that will have Soriano patrolling the ivy-covered walls of Wrigley Field until 2014. Soriano45_1

The Washington Nationals were unable to find a reasonable deal for Soriano at this past July’s Trade Deadline, and opted to take the chance of re-signing the free agent outfielder. Soriano was, at the time, well on his way to a career season, it was a contract year after all, and as Soriano came closer and closer to the elusive 40/40 plateau, it became more and more evident that his days in DC were, in fact, numbered.Soriano44_1

Soriano stated publicly that the Nationals would have the first chance to sign him once the free agent signing period started. Reports surfaced of a 5-year-$70 million dollar offer from the Nationals, but the reports were quickly dismissed by the team’s top brass. One has to wonder if the team was attempting to avoid publicly acknowledging the fact that the All-Star outfielder had indeed rejected their best offer. Remember the Expos never actually "made" an offer to Vladimir Guerrero either.

But that’s all conjecture. What is known now, according to those pesky "unnamed sources," is the fact that Soriano will not be back in DC. Not to worry. Have you heard about Kory Casto?Casto3

I would have rather seen him scooping grounders at Shea, and then Citi, for about 7 years. He’ll be asking for a trade after 1 year with Lou. 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in the Windy City? I can see it.

Who cares what the stats are at Wrigley?
Can’t we see this man is hurting inside?

Sori was their only hope. Now they have to find a new one.

$135 million. wow. I’d go in a heartbeat.

Then drink myself to death.

Yes, I will miss soRI. It is tough to pass up the $, but Uncle Lou will make him into an even greater player, just like me. Anyway, Haken, I do believe that you have picked a slower and more demonic poison than d r i n k i n g.
Love, Nik

What!? What have I picked?!!

Would it have anything to do with my lovely bride?

or my *** tendencies?(C’mon grow up. – ed)

Please Stanla, you have to tell me.

Hey, stop throwing high and tight Haken and Stan. At times like this we should come together. I mean…

Soriano is gone.

Can we at least get Wilkerson back. Texas doesn’t really need him. C’mon I know you read DC Daily GM Jim Bowden. Make it happen. Ya heer.

Hey Ottoman, you’re asking for a new Shea comedy pyramid.

Shiti Field. Anyone? Eh?

50 homers with half your games in Wrigley is not out of the realm. Scout is on record predicting 75.

I am hurting inside, Haken. Thanks for caring. Really.

Sori is not the only hope. Sheff left. Alright. Take that. How do you like it?

For $135 Million, the Cubs can have him.

Drinking yourself to death isn’t easy Haken. Be sure to apply yourself.

Uncle Lou is gonna love Soriano the first time he walks into the locker room and says, “Who’s ready to play baseball?” (Sori apparently says some variation of that every day. I might be making that up.

“Demonic poison,” Stan?

What? What has he picked? Don’t talk about Haken’s lovely bride, or Haken’s mother, Haken doesn’t like that.

Yes, Haken, I am telling you what you like.

Please Stanla tell him?

DC Daily is turning into a soap opera.

Thanks for reading. I miss you all.

—’may the wind blow in your face all season long, so long sori…’ now that he’s gone (for nothing) i wonder what offers the nats passed on at the deadline. i’ll bite, tell me about casto…

Ed.:
Don’t paraphrase me, my life coach says it lowers my self-steam. Just kidding haken, guy, I am sure that your marriage will be different from the tons of billions out there. soRI as Ernie Banks saying, “Who’s ready to play baseball.” ??? I believe it is, “Let’s play two.” Uncle Lou is gonna’ get A-Rod next and I will be real happy.

Love, Nik U read it here first.

You’re right Hater, who could the Nats have picked-up?

I will never let my wife read this.

Sorry Ed, your readers/commentors stay at 4.

Go Pens!

Sorry Haken! I suggest you keep your wife away too. I can’t control these posters!

Offers for Soriano passed. The White Sox, Mets and Angels were the big names at the time. The Nationals probably wanted Brandon McCarthy from the White Sox, Milledge from the Mets and Ervin Santana from the Angels plus the picks, prospects, etc. Just my best guesses admittedly.

Tell your life coach to step up the regiment, Stan.

Uncle Lou just needs healthy pitchers and the Cubbies might have a chance.

Thanks for reading.
